Welcome to the Jazzschool Institute!

Our prime objective is to provide you, the aspiring professional jazz instrumentalist and /or vocalist,
with a superb educational forum that enables you to develop as an artist and to grow the audiences
who support and promote the music you play.

As a student at the Jazzschool Institute, you can choose from an exciting range of education and
performance opportunities that will help you fulfill these objectives. Above all, you’ll be able to learn
from and play with the exceptional artists and educators who make up the Jazzschool Institute faculty!
Additionally, our partnership with Yoshi’s, one of the world’s foremost jazz presenters, not only affords
students year-round access to renowned jazz artists and educators from around the world but also
serves as a wonderful venue for student performances on occasion.

Performance is at the heart of the Jazz Studies major at the Jazzschool Institute. As part of the uniquely
jazz-focused core curriculum, you will gain essential experience in a wide variety of live performance
settings during your tenure in Berkeley — from concerts at the Jazzschool to appearances at the
prestigious Monterey Jazz Festival and more. Rounding out the performance component of the
program are classes that will help you will develop critical marketing, music technology, and business
skills necessary for your success as a professional musician.
